Review of the Wallace Pottery Bowl Chuck.
From using it for a few days, I would say it is quite nice, especially for trimming close to the edge of pots. My experience is that you can either use wadding to prevent movement, or if your bowl is wet enough, you can just place the bowl and it will stick, or you could use a little moisture. My advise is not to use both :-). That will make a mess! My thought is that this is best for trimming multiple bowls at once. If you are using it for only one or two at a time, it is a slight bit of a hassle to put the form on and take it off, but when using it for multi bowls, trimming goes much faster than any other “helper” that I’ve used. I like that it adds some height, which makes if easier to see what you are doing on the edges. Unlike the griffin grip, you can pretty much get right to the edge of the bowl. For me the is a real plus. After you get the hang of it, this makes trimming go faster, and I like that a lot.
The down side is that the system is pricey, but if you have the money, or feel that in the long run, the increased speed in trimming will help you in your business, then give this system a try. I just purchased the cup chuck and and another piece, but not yet used them yet. All in all, I really like it. (And yes, I can definitely tap center, so this is just a nice perk for me).
